Roof Repair for a Solar System Installation on Calle Lago, Walnut, CA

Roof Repair for a Solar System Installation on Calle Lago, Walnut, CA

As we know, especially here in CA, solar is a great way to cut your energy bill drastically. Not to mention all the benefits of clean for your home instead of from coal and oil. In order to install the panels on the roof, it is necessary to drill into the roof deck to secure them on the roof. Unfortunately, this process can easily create problems with the waterproofing if done incorrectly by solar installers or the condition of the roof is already near its end of life.

It is highly recommended to get your roof assessed by an experienced roofer, not just a solar tech. You can prevent avoidable leaks and water damage after getting brand new solar by making sure the roof is sound and installation is done with waterproofing in mind. Leaving broken tiles and holes in the roofing underlayment is a recipe for disaster.

This Walnut, California house had solar installed fairly recently and during the last rains experienced a new leak right under the panels. Depending on your agreement with you solar company the repairs for this could come out of your own pocket.

Level 1 Roofing took care of the problems and was able to allow the solar energy to flow freely once again.

Clay Tile Repairs Under a Carlsbad Home’s Solar System

Clay Tile Repairs Under a Carlsbad Home’s Solar System

Carlsbad is known for its beaches and sun. No better way for your home to take advantage of this than putting solar down to capture the energy from the sun. A roof that appears to be fine can have its age and flaws exposed once solar gets hammered into it. Years of broken tiles and worn out felt underlayment will come to light. It is surprisingly often that we get a call only months after the panels have been installed to come replace the entire or a section of a roof. This process can end up costing more than getting a new roof and solar around the same time.

It is highly recommended to get your roof assessed by an experienced roofer, not just a solar tech. New Tile Roof on a La Cañada Flintridge Home

New Tile Roof on a La Cañada Flintridge Home

This La Cañada Flintridge home had solar installed in the recent past and experienced a new leak near the panel locations. The felt underlayment was already towards the end of its life. The entire roof paper was brittle and more leaks would be coming soon. Level 1 Roofing and the owners of the house decided it was best to replace the waterproofing underlayment on the entire house. The Homeowners decided on switching from the old red tiles to get a more sophisticated color and style on the home for decades to come. As well as upgrading from the previously installed asphaltic felt to a newer synthetic underlayment.

Level 1 Roofing put a brand new roof system in place to give the home an updated look and allow the solar to have a firm leak-free foundation to provide energy.

Roof Replacement on a South Los Angeles home remodel with GAF Charcoal Grand Sequoia

Roof Replacement on a south Los Angeles home remodel with GAF Charcoal Grand Sequoia

The owners of this home in south Los Angeles decided to remodel much of the interior and exterior of their home. After considering the age of the previous roof and the issues it had a roof replacement was the obvious move. A premium Grand Sequoia GAF shingle was chosen. The charcoal color offered by GAF is one of the only “dark” colors that are available in much of California due to Title 24 regulations.

A full GAF system was installed as the roof replacement on this home. The Grand Sequoia shingles, the Ridglass along the ridges, Prostart starter strip and premium synthetic GAF tiger paw underlayment to round it off. Also installed were a series of low profile vents from O’Hagin and valley metal to ensure the protection over the most vulnerable areas, the valleys.

At Level 1 Roofing we pride ourselves in providing not only the highest-quality roofing materials, installation, and warranties but also a great experience. Whether you have a small repair, large home roof replacement, or something in between, the team Level 1 Roofing strives to bring you the only best in roofing.

Tile Roof Repair with Synthetic Underlayment in Lake Elsinore CA

Tile Roof Repair with Synthetic Underlayment in Lake Elsinore CA

As a tile roof ages, the concrete or clay tiles will hold up quite well to nature and the sun. Often lasting several decades. Where a tile roof will begin to fail is the felt underlayment. In as little as 10 to 15 years the underlayment can lose much of its flexibility and asphalt emulsion. This means any shift in pressure or heavy rains can cause tears in your waterproofing layer. When Level 1 Roofing prepares an estimate we highly recommend going with the newer and proven synthetic underlayment instead of an asphalt felt. The heat doesn’t deteriorate the synthetic product anywhere near the amount felt does.

This Lake Elsinore homeowner decided to go ahead and do the partial lift and relay repairs with a UDL 50 synthetic waterproofing underlayment. In these types of repairs, we reuse the existing tile where possible and use new or reclaimed tile where needed. The new or reclaimed tiles will not be a perfect match as every tile roof has a different color due to age, sun exposure, moisture, and dust.

Shingle Re-Roof on a North Los Angeles 2 Story Home

Shingle Re-Roof on a North Los Angeles 2 Story Home

This Los Angeles home located in North Hills posed some unique challenges during the re-roof process. For all major projects, Level 1 Roofing will file and make payment for any necessary city or county building permits involving roofing. Many cities and counties have varying unique or different requirements for the permit process. In the case of roof replacement in the city of Los Angeles, a city-approved and permitted waste hauler must remove waste from the job site. The community HOA also has stringent rules on when and where and how long vehicles, or in this case, a waste bin can be parked. This took many calls and emails between us and both the city and the HOA but we were able to get the schedule lined up for everyone to be happy without undue stress upon the homeowner.

The roof itself was simple, we agreed on installing GAF Timberline HD Reflector Series in the Birchwood color with matching Ridglass on the ridges and hips. Tiger Paw synthetic underlayment and pro start starter stripes on the eaves from GAF allowed us to provide an unparalleled lifetime limited warranty from the number one roofing manufacturer in North America. We tore off the old worn out shingle roof system previously installed down to the bare plywood sheathing and put down a quality comp shingle roofing system.

Now the roof is ready for many years of weather stopping service and future solar installation that is planned in the coming weeks.

Sacramento Roof Replacement – New Sheathing and Shingles

Sacramento Roof Replacement Comp Shingles

For this 1 story shingle roof home in Sacramento, roof replacement with full tear-off and new sheathing was the right call. As roofing contractors, we see all types of roofs in every condition imaginable. Even a roof with many years of service under its belt can provide adequate protection as long as the roof was installed correctly and is maintained regularly. In this case, the house needed a new roof. Owens Corning Duration shingles were chosen by the homeowner with our firm recommendation. We were glad to hear that on this project we were referred to by another Sacramento area roofing customer. We always appreciate when people are satisfied and even more so when tell their friends and family when they need a local roofer.

After getting the old roof removed and got down to the wood, we installed new plywood sheathing. Level 1 Roofing is dedicated to doing things right. The new sheathing was necessary to adhere to the new building and safety code. We installed white drip edge metal along the eaves in order to have the most protection for the house’s fascia and shiplap wood. A few Owens Corning Ventsure inflow vents were installed along the lower sections of the roof to ensure good air intake in the attic. We also installed ventilation along the ridge to have great circulation and keep the roo and accompanying house properly ventilated. On all our roof replacements we like to inform the home or property owner about synthetic underlayment. Click here if you want to see a great comparison of asphalt felt vs synthetic. On top goes the Duration shingles with a limited lifetime warranty.

Pico Rivera Roof Replacement of Garage with Hickory Shingles

Pico Rivera Roof Replacement of Garage with Hickory Shingles

The pitched roofing on this garage in Pico Rivera was due for a roof replacement. Level 1 Roofing was hired to do this smaller replacement due to its difficulties. Citrus Heights Roof Replacement – Tiles to Shingles

Citrus Heights Roof Replacement – Tiles to Shingles

Some customers want to shake things up and have new look. On this Citrus Heights roof replacement project we removed the previously installed tile roofing and installed a full Owens Corning Duration TruDef shingle roofing system. Complete with the Owens Corning Preferred Warranty up to 50 Years. Deck Defense synthetic underlayment nailed to the deck along with Weather lock at valleys, and chimney. Not only are quality roof materials important for waterproofing and longevity, but proper attic ventilation also keeps the roof cool and allows it to last even longer. There is also the additional benefit of keeping the home cooler and reducing A/C usage and cost. For the ventilation, we installed Owens Corning VentSure Rigid Roll ridge vent on all ridges. We also installed all new sheet metal drip edge, valley metal, pipe flashing & T-tops. On this particular Citrus Heights roof replacement, we included the replacement of dry rot at 2 sections. In this case, we were able to tell ahead of time and price in the woodwork. Most of the time it is hard to know exactly how much if any wood rot there is.

Level 1 Roofing is all about providing people with a quality choice in roofers. We aren’t always going to be the lowest price out there, but be we provide a great level of quality.
